Sometimes, you need to Take A Paws

So, here’s the thing. Sometimes what starts out as an intentional stretttttch turns into something a little bit longer. Like a catnap in the sun. And then that turns into a Paws. That’s exactly what’s been happening over here at Lucky Cat Rescue. We’ve taken a much-needed Paws. A time to reflect. A time to ask ourselves what’s right for our future. A time to ask ourselves what kind of kitty colony we want to be when we grow up. And a time to ask ourselves what we need to do to get there.

We are excited to tell you that we are back!! Ready to ROAR as loud as ever. Briscoe is cooking up some fresh Biscuits, and Lil Kim has been preparing those catnip toys! Let’s talk about the updates and some exciting things coming your way.

First. A little restructuring. We have changed how we look internally. The original board that helped establish Lucky Cat Rescue has been dissolved. Like throwing cat poop-shaped confetti and glitter in the sky. The role they played in helping establish the governance and first evolution of Lucky Cat Rescue will always be remembered, I am truly grateful. However, after some time as an organization, we just kept spinning like Mac on the cat wheel. Despite how fast or slow we tried to go, we were getting nowhere. Decisions were made, and I have been pulling pieces from the rubble and ash of what was and used this Paws to take what I have learned and reimagine the next iteration of Lucky Cats Rescue as mostly a solo mission, with a trusty few supporters in my clowder. #qualityoverquantity

Second. We’ve changed our programs a bit. Our vision has been and will always be to establish a place where cats and humans come together to support each other. We’ve simply changed our paw print a little right now as we work towards our goal of building the Cat Sanctuary. What this means is that our Fostering Program will be sunsetting, and instead, we are adding a vision of shelter into our Cat Sanctuary. The shelter will allow us space to house the cats for the people we are helping on-site, will serve as a central space to keep the cats safe, and will give the humans of the cats we are housing a chance to come and visit and keep their bond with their furry family member(s). Establishing the space not only creates a safe space for cats, but for their humans in a time of vulnerability and need, where they can reflect and get support. They will have the opportunity to volunteer a certain number of hours at the shelter, supporting other humans in a similar journey and helping with the sustainability of the overall sanctuary, now referred to as the “Sheltuary.” This exciting new evolution creates a safe space, further builds community, establishes opportunities for volunteerism, and most importantly, creates lots of opportunities for scratches under the chin and behind the ears. #sheltuarylife

Third. Our Paws is over, and we are ready to ROAR! We are celebrating our exciting news with you by hosting a booth at the 2023 New England Metal & Hardcore Festival on September 15th & 16th, 2023. Why Metalfest? That’s easy. For founder Holly Jane,

“In the hardest moments of my life, music helps me find the words I don’t have, and cats bring the comfort words could never.”

This year's resurrection of Metal Fest at the Palladium in Worcester, MA falls on the 5th anniversary of the loss of Jeff Peck, Holly’s person, her soulmate, and the best music-making Cat Dad. This booth is celebrating Jeff, and we can’t think of a better venue to honor him and make sure he hears us sing and scream along to some of our favorite songs. We invite those in attendance to come to Take A Paws and share with us who they have in their heart, who is not with them physically but is always there, human or animal.

The booth will be where everyone in attendance can Take A Paws. A place to be safe, to see smiles. To be reminded you’re not alone. To be silly, play with our special interactive toys, maybe win some prizes, take photos in one of two photo booths, and share what we Rage For, Stand For, Mosh For, or Live For! It’s an important day for Lucky Cat Rescue. A day where we will Rage for events which brought us here and a day where we will Rage for ourselves. A place where we have always known without words that if we fall, someone is right there to pick us up. And we invite you to be part of our cat and human community together in music, understanding, grief, trauma, love, and to heal together, if just for a moment.
